Remodeling a Retro Kitchen

I'm moving into an older home and I really want to remodel the outdated kitchen. This kitchen remodeling project entails new cabinets or cabinet refinishing, new appliances, and new counter tops. The existing appliances are original to the house which was built in the 1960's. So I'm going to replace the old appliances with new energy efficient appliances. Investing in new energy efficient kitchen appliances can greatly reduce your energy bills, making it a cost-effective decision.

Next on my kitchen remodeling list is counter top replacement. The old formica counter top, although functional, has an outdated design. For kitchen remodeling, choices in new counter tops are endless. Granite, stone, formica, or even faux finish can be done to update counter tops. Remodeling your counter tops doesn't have to break the bank. There are many inexpensive ways to remodel your kitchen counters.

There are many possibilities for remodeling your old kitchen cabinets too. Probably the easiest way is to hire a contractor and have the project done for you. However, if you're more of a do-it-yourselfer, you may want cabinet refinishing for your kitchen remodeling project. Basically, you take the doors off of the cabinets, sand them or use paint remover, and repaint them according to your updated kitchen style. For a retro kitchen, use paint in the colors that were popular at the time for your remodeling project.

Kitchen Remodeling Idea

I had this kitchen remodeling idea today. I really like fishing and the ocean so i decided that i wanted to create a kitchen that has an under sea kind of feel. To make my dream of the perfect underwater kitchen come true I would paint the walls as blue as the Atlantic Ocean, the ocean would go as high as 3/4 of the wall, and the top 1/4 would be the sky, as if i was a fish swimming in the sea, coming up for a breathe of air, at least my fish do :)

In the top right corner of the kitchen there would be a sun, not one of those hand drawn suns, but more like a sun if you were to try to look at it with your own eyes. It woudl be blurry, and the rays of the sun would cut across the sky.

The cabinets would be a dark brown like drift wood floating in the ocean, and the table in the kitchen would be the same color.

I would easily place a saltwater tank in the kitchen with some beautiful tropical fish.

So far this is all i have of my fantastic kitchen idea.

Hope you enjoyed!
